Vol. 111 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defence Forces Discharge Certificates.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will investigate the position whereby members of the Defence Forces who had no serious breaches of discipline recorded against them are discharged with the cause of such discharge recorded on their discharge certificates as "services being no longer required"; and if, in view of the serious implications of this statement as regards such members in their search for employment after discharge, he will have the regulations amended in this respect and also amend such certificates issued to date.

I have already considered the position of soldiers discharged as "Service being no longer required" and am prepared to examine any cases brought to my notice in which it would appear that the general circumstances did not warrant discharge under this heading.
