Vol. 111 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Limerick Bridge.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange to have the Plassy Bridge, Limerick, repaired immediately, as there is grave danger that the bridge will not survive another winter if not attended to.

A State grant towards the cost of this work was approved and notified to the local authority in August, 1947. When tenders were obtained it was found that the lowest exceeded the estimate, which had been made some time previously. Authority was recently obtained for an increased State grant, and it is hoped to make final arrangements with the local authority in the near future.

In view of the urgency of this work and the many promises we have had in regard to it, would the Parliamentary Secretary indicate what he means by "in the near future"? How soon will work commence on the Plassy Bridge?

It will be communicated to the county council in the course of a few days.
