Vol. 111 No. 12

Trade Union Bill, 1948—Second and Subsequent Stages.

I move that the Bill be now read a Second Time. This is a very simple Bill. It is merely to continue for another 12 months certain powers which the Minister had under Section 2 of the 1947 Act. It is to enable the Minister to allow trade unions to deposit a reduced amount of approximately 75 per cent. of the amount laid down in the Trade Union Act, 1941.

We have no objection to the principle contained in the Bill and we are prepared to let the Government have it.

The only thing I should like to say is that I see the necessity for doing this, but I sincerely hope the Minister will take an early opportunity of getting this Bill off the Statute Book.

Question put and agreed to.
Agreed to take the remaining stages now.
Bill put through Committee without amendment, received for final consideration and passed.
