Vol. 111 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minor Employment and Rural Improvement Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when minor relief schemes and rural improvement schemes will be put into operation in County Sligo.

Minor employment schemes are sanctioned to provide work for men in receipt of unemployment assistance during the winter months, and to the extent to which they are warranted they will be provided as usual for County Sligo in the present year.

It is hoped, however, that a list of drainage schemes in connection with the emergency production of turf will in the near future be issued for execution.

As regards rural improvements schemes, the issue of sanctions is made at any period of the year whenever the benefiting landholders have lodged their contributions towards the cost of the works. The County Engineer, Sligo, has at present five rural improvement schemes in hands.
