Vol. 111 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Medals.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether a decision has now been reached regarding the extension of the time limit for applying for military service medals.

The question of extending the time for making application for pre-Truce service medals is still under consideration.

In view of the general demand there is in certain areas of the country can the Minister give any indication as to when he hopes to arrive at a decision on this?

I think most Deputies are aware that when a new Government comes in the Government agenda is rather heavily overloaded in the early months. I hope that a decision will be taken on this particular matter when this Dáil goes into recess, if it ever goes into recess.

Will the Minister state if he is aware that his predecessor gave an undertaking to this House on the 10th December, 1947, that he would extend the period?

I am aware of the fact that in answer to a question on, I think, the 10th December, 1947, my predecessor indicated that he would reopen this matter. Is not that the supplementary question?

I hope the Minister will live up to it.
