Vol. 111 No. 18

Control of Imports (Quota No. 8) (Amendment) Order, 1938 (Amendment) Order, 1948—Motion of Approval.

I move:—

That Dáil Éireann hereby approves of the Control of Imports (Quota No. 8) (Amendment) Order, 1938 (Amendment) Order, 1948.

This Order deals with motor cars assembled in Great Britain. Under Article 17 of the Trade Agreement of 1938 motor cars assembled in Great Britain of a c.i.f. value of £750 or more are allowed into this country free of quantitative restriction. After the war when the importation of cars was resumed it was found, owing to the change in prices, that the figure of £750 was ineffective and out of date, and, as a result of talks initiated with the British Government by the previous Government here, it was agreed that the figure should be raised from £750 to £1,300. This Order is merely to give effect to that.

Question put and agreed to.
