Vol. 112 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - R.I.C. Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the grievances in regard to pensions of the members of the Royal Irish Constabulary who resigned from the force at the call of Dáil Éireann in 1920; and, if so, whether it is proposed to increase those pensions to the level of the pensions now payable by the British Government to the members of the Royal Irish Constabulary who were disbanded in Ireland in 1922.

Representations for the grant of an increase in pension have been made by former members of the Royal Irish Constabulary who resigned or were dismissed from that force because of their national sympathies. As indicated in my reply to Deputy Alfred Byrne on the 10th March last, the question whether it will be possible, in the light of the financial position, to accede to claims for increases in pensions of various kinds, including the pensions referred to by the Deputy, is under examination.
