Vol. 112 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Meath Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission propose to continue proceedings for the acquisition of the Duddy, formerly Daniel, estate at Moyleggan, Batterstown, County Meath, and if he will state the date on which proceedings were instituted and also the ultimate decision of the Land Commission in the matter.

Notice of the Land Commission's intention to resume this holding was published on 27th January, 1942. The Land Commission Court refused the tenant's petition against resumption in November 1942, but the case was then affected by the general hold-up of Land Commission activities during the emergency. The matter is now under review.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) whether a scheme for the distribution of the remaining lands on the Wilkinson Estate, Skryne, County Meath, has been partially or wholly completed; (b) the number of new holdings it is proposed to create thereon: (c) the number of dwelling-houses and out-offices it is proposed to erect thereon, and (d) whether contracts for the erection of these buildings will be placed in the near future.

It would be undesirable and contrary to usual practice to disclose detailed information in regard to a scheme for the division of particular lands before it is put into operation. In this case all I am prepared to say is that a scheme for the balance of the Wilkinson estate has been settled and arrangements for the erection of the necessary buildings are in hands.

Can the Minister say how many houses will be erected there?

I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that that is part of the information which it would not be desirable to disclose at the moment.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the number of cases in which resumption notices were served on land owners in County Meath since 18th February, 1948, with a view to acquiring their lands for division; (b) the area of land involved, and (c) the total area in County Meath it is proposed to acquire before the 31st March, 1949.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the taking over of land by the Land Commission for its statutory purposes. As the greater portion of the land which is needed for their purposes is vested land, part (a) of the Deputy's question does not apply. Parts (b) and (c) therefore, do not arise.
