Vol. 112 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Kerry Timber, Fuel.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is now in a position to agree to the sale, by public auction, in small lots, of the dumps of firewood in the form of logs in the Muckross, Loo Bridge and Dromore areas, County Kerry, so as to enable people in poor circumstances to have, for next winter, a supply of fuel at first cost.

I am not at present prepared to arrange for the sale by auction of firewood from the State forest lands at Muckross, Loo Bridge and Dromore, County Kerry. The local forestry officers have authority to sell small lots locally at fixed prices, and any representations as regards these prices will have consideration.

Is the Minister aware that the beauty of the Torc waterfall has been destroyed owing to the depredations of the last Government in cutting down trees there? Is he further aware that these trees are now lying rotting on the roadside?

I am aware that a good deal of local resentment has been caused by the felling of trees in the locality, and I believe that the amenities there have been impaired as a result. I have no further information on the matter.
