Vol. 112 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Policy.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the policy of the Land Commission in regard to the provision of additions of land to allottees who already have got standard holdings in cases where land is in future acquired adjacent to their present allotments.

The Land Commission has no policy. As a statutory body, the duty of the Land Commission is to implement Government policy.

Can the Minister say what Government policy is on the matter?

Government policy is that those who have already got standard holdings cannot be regarded as urgent cases for enlargement of their present holdings—at least, they are not as urgent as congests who are living in very small holdings and under miserable conditions in many cases. In other words, we must come to the relief of the worst cases first.

I am quite satisfied with the Minister's answer.
