Vol. 113 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the Carson Woods estate at Tallagh, Belmullet, is still in rundale; and, if so, whether he will see that this estate is immediately striped and fenced and grants for new houses given; and, further, whether he will speed up the rearrangement of the Ormsby estate in the townland and give housing grants to the tenants on the estate.

The question of the rearrangement of the holdings comprising these estates has been noted for investigation as early as possible. Matters such as fencing and the provision of adequate housing will be considered in connection with any rearrangement scheme undertaken.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the Kirkwood estate has been rearranged and striped but that the Land Commission has not yet fenced the holdings of the tenants or made other necessary improvements; and, if so, whether he will state when the improvement and fencing of the holdings will be carried out.

The Land Commission have not carried out any rearrangement of the Kirkwood estates in County Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands when he intends to take over the Shaw (Minors) estate at Tallagh, Belmullet; if he is aware of the acute congestion that exists in that area; and if he will see that these lands are divided immediately and given to the poor tenants in the area before the tillage season starts.

I am aware of the congestion in the townland of Tallagh, County Mayo. The Land Commission are having inquiries made regarding the untenanted land in that townland on the Shaw (Minors) estate.
