Vol. 113 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Field Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when the proposed scheme of field drainage by machinery is likely to come into operation; what the conditions are under which the work is likely to be carried out; and whether, in view of the urgent need for quick methods of field drainage in South Kerry, he will give priority to that area in the carrying out of the scheme.

I am having investigation made into the suitability of new and improved types of drainage machinery for conditions in this country. If particular types are found suitable, I am prepared to consider ways of making them available for farm drainage work here through a scheme to be administered by my Department.

Meanwhile, grants are available under the farm improvements scheme for drainage work carried out by such drainage machinery as is at present available to farmers.
