Vol. 113 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Tomato Sauce.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give the names of the countries to which we export tomato sauce and the value of this item exported to each country.

In the period January-October, 1948, inclusive, the f.o.b. values of exports of tomato sauce and tomato ketchup, described as such, consigned to Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Iceland amounted to £11,378, £319 and £68, respectively.

Exports of tomato sauce are recorded under the official import list description "other foods for human consumption, manufactured or prepared," and exporters in some cases use that general description instead of a particular description such as "tomato sauce" on the export specification. Accordingly, the foregoing figures, which refer only to exports specifically described as tomato sauce or tomato ketchup, must be regarded as minimal.
