Vol. 114 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vocational Schools for Midleton and Mitchelstown.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state why the building of technical and vocational schools in Midleton and Mitchelstown was not carried on in 1948; and whether he will sanction the work this year.

The plans for these schools have been under discussion with the Department and the Board of Works during the past year by the architect of the County Cork Vocational Education Committee. At present the architect is preparing new sketch plans for both schools.

Only a limited amount of capital expenditure can be sanctioned for schools at present. It is hoped, however, to be in a position to allow the Cork Vocational Education Committee to proceed with the Mitchelstown school before the end of the present year. The question of Midleton school along with a number of other schools will be considered immediately after the authority to proceed with the Mitchelstown school has been finally arranged.
