Vol. 114 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postal Service in Drimnagh-Crumlin Area.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that the residents of the Drimnagh-Crumlin areas have not an English letter daily delivery service at 10 a.m. but receive their English mail in the afternoon and that this system causes undue delay and hardship; and, if so, whether he will consider remedying the position by giving these areas an English letter delivery at 10 a.m. as in the other Dublin postal districts.

I am aware that the Drimnagh-Crumlin areas have not an English letter mail delivery at 10 a.m. I regret, however, that the extension of the English delivery to these and other areas of the city similarly affected would not at present be warranted on account of the cost involved.

Is the Minister aware that there is a population of 80,000 in that area? Can he not see his way to give it the same privilege as is given in other areas in the city with regard to the delivery of the English mail?

As I stated, other areas are similarly situated, but I am not in a position to recommend the extension of the English delivery to these areas owing to the cost.
