Vol. 114 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Second-hand Vehicles.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the fact that Irish assemblers of motor vehicles are now in a position to meet the full demands of the trade, he will permit the export of second-hand vehicles so as to enable people desirous of purchasing new vehicles to dispose of their second-hand vehicles and thus help to stimulate the assembling industry in this country.

I have been mindful of the interests of the assembly industry in this country in deciding the extent to which the restrictions on the export of second-hand motor vehicles should be relaxed. There are other considerations to which I must have regard in the present abnormal conditions, and having regard to these considerations I regret that I could not agree at present to modify further the conditions on which export licences are being granted.
