Vol. 114 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigration from Clare.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce how many persons (1) male and (2) female emigrated from County Clare to (a) U.S.A. and (b) other countries, during the years 1947 and 1948, respectively.

The exact particulars which the Deputy requires are not available in my Department. As bearing generally on the subject of the inquiry, the total number of new travel permits and new passports granted in the year 1947 to persons who resided in County Clare to go abroad to take up employment was 280 to men and 633 to women. In the year 1948 the total number of new travel identity cards and new passports granted to such persons to go abroad to take up employment or permanent residence was 675 to men and 680 to women.
