Vol. 114 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Breach in County Clare River Bank.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the river bank on the D'Esterre estate, Rossmanaher, Sixmilebridge, was breached by the tide in December last, flooding over 800 acres of small holdings; and, if so, whether he will state what steps, if any, he proposes taking with a view to assisting these industrious smallholders.

The flooding at Ross-manaher has been caused by a breach in the embankment in the adjoining townland of Cappagh South. The Land Commission have no liability for the repair or maintenance of this embankment, but in view of the extensive area rendered liable to flooding, they have made arrangements to have the breach repaired, without prejudice to their powers under the Land Purchase Acts to recover the cost incurred, from the person or persons found to be liable therefor, or from the occupiers of the lands benefited by the expenditure.
