Vol. 114 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farm Building Scheme Applications.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (i) how many farm building scheme applications were received from County Dublin during 1948; and (ii) how many were sanctioned.

The number of applications under the farm buildings scheme which have been received from rated occupiers of agricultural land in County Dublin is 326. Shortage of essential materials for the country's building programme as a whole has prevented me from bringing the scheme into general operation up to now, but I am glad to say that I shall be able to give effect to it next month. That part of the scheme which relates to grants for poultry houses has, however, been in operation for some months. Of the 326 applications from County Dublin 91 were in respect of poultry houses and 27 of these have already been approved.

How many of the balance?

What balance? Do not flap your paper. If you want to ask a question get up and ask it.

Is it not true that a number of these schemes have been put in abeyance during the past 12 months? I think it is obvious from the Minister's reply that they have.

Why ask me then?

I just wanted to find out.

I suggest the Deputy is making a speech.

The Minister indicated that 326 applications had been received, and that only 27 had been sanctioned, and that those were for poultry houses.

Am I to assume that the Deputy is deaf? If so, I am prepared to shout the answer again.

I know you are prepared to shout. That is all you are able to do.

If you have not heard the answer, I am prepared to repeat it.
