Vol. 114 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compilation of Voters' Register.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will say which classes of public servants in respect of whom he has responsibility have duties in relation to the compilation of the register of voters and what those duties are.

The county registrars are the registration officers for the purposes of the Electoral Acts in their respective areas. It is the duty of the registration officer to compile the annual register of electors in accordance with the rules contained in the First Schedule to the Electoral Act, 1923, as amended by the Electoral (Dáil Éireann and Local Authorities) Act, 1945, and any Orders made by the Minister for Local Government for the time being in force. For details of the duties involved I would refer the Deputy to the said First Schedule.
