Vol. 114 No. 5

Order of Business.

Business will be taken in the following order:— Nos. 4 and 2 (Votes Nos. 3, 10, 17, 29, 43, 57, 59, 64). Public business will be interrupted at 9 o'clock to take Private Deputies' Business, but should Government Business conclude before 9 o'clock, Private Deputies' Business will then be taken.

I should like to know whether the Taoiseach is yet in a position to say when and in what manner the Report of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges will come before the House.

The Report of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges is already before the House. As I undertook on the last day when this matter was discussed, I discussed the matter with the Ceann Comhairle. The report is before the House and it is open to any Deputy who likes to take action on it. So far as the Government is concerned, they propose to take no action. On the last occasion I stated that if a motion were put down for a Select Committee to deal with the matter, which was referred to in the Report of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges, that would not be opposed by the Government. That is the position now. The Government do not intend to do anything, but if that motion is put down they will not oppose it.

While I regard the attitude of the Government as constituting a grave dereliction of duty, I should like if the Taoiseach would inform me whether, if a motion is submitted requesting the House to approve of the recommendation of the Committee, Government time will be given for its discussion.

I will consider that.

On last Thursday I gave notice to raise a certain question on the Adjournment. With your permission, Sir, I should like to raise it to-night.

On the Adjournment to-night the subject matter of Question No. 2 on the Order Paper for last Thursday will be raised.
