Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Royal Irish Constabulary Pensions.

Mr. A. Byrne

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of dismissed and resigned Royal Irish Constabulary men now drawing pensions; and if, in view of their small number, he will consider placing them on a parity basis with those who were disbanded and pensioned by the British Government.

510 former members of the Royal Irish Constabulary who resigned or were dismissed because of their national sympathies are at present receiving pensions under the Superannuation and Pensions Act, 1923. The question whether it will be possible, in the light of the financial position, to provide for increases in pensions of various kinds, including those referred to by the Deputy, is under examination.
