Vol. 114 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Ministerial Cars.

asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of Deputy Con Lehane's statements reported at column 1706, Volume 113 of Dáil Debates, he will state the names of the Ministers or Parliamentary Secretaries who at no time use the cars which he indicated had been allocated to all of them.

All Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries use official cars, but some Ministers use their private cars for certain purposes.

Is it a fact that the Minister for External Affairs and the Minister for Health use the Government cars allotted to them only for official purposes?

I am so aware.

Is the Minister aware that Deputy Lehane said in this House that there are two Ministers not using public transport?

The Deputy should read the remarks of Deputy Lehane in their proper context.

Is he further aware that Deputy Lehane stated that the Minister for External Affairs and the Minister for Health did not use Government cars?

For other than official business.

Is the Minister aware that Deputy Lehane stated in this house on December 16, as reported in the Official Report——

The Deputy may not read quotations at Question Time.

You should read what happened about petrol in County Limerick.

It has nothing to do with it. He said that he would put down a question to the Minister for Justice next day.

The Deputy is making a speech.

The Minister is aware of the fact that a question was asked if certain State cars were used at the election in Donegal. Arising out of that, Deputy Lehane did say that two Minister did not use their State cars in that particular election.

Or anyone else. There was no question of it in that particular election.

Was Deputy Lehane correct in that statement?
