Vol. 114 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Punched Spade Moulds.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can now state the reasons for the disparity in the quotations for punched spade moulds, i.e., (a) 75/- per cwt. f.o.r. Cork, and (b) 56/- per cwt. f.o.r. Cork, obtained from two Cork firms; and if he will indicate the cause of those phenomenal prices, considering that the English quotation for such moulds was at the time 36/- per cwt. delivered Dublin.

The prices charged by the firms concerned for spade moulds and other products have been under investigation. With regard to the quotation of 56/- per cwt. referred to by the Deputy I am satisfied that having regard to the cost of raw steel to this firm, this price was not unreasonable. I am inquiring into the general prices and profits position of the firm which quoted the price of 75/per cwt., but am awaiting receipt of further information which should be available at a very early date.
