Vol. 114 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Marshall Aid for Fishing Industry.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he can have funds derived from Marshall Aid applied for the development of the fishing industry off the Donegal coast.

It is not clear what exactly the Deputy means. Ireland receives no grant under the European Recovery Programme; to date such dollars as have been made available to. Ireland under this programme have been made available on a loan basis and will in due course be repayable under the terms of the loan agreement.

Apart from these funds, however, a scheme is at present being prepared for the reorganisation of the Sea Fisheries Association, one of the first duties of which, under the new arrangement, will be to expand and develop the fishing industry on every coast of Ireland, on the basis of the reservation of the domestic fish-market for the inshore fishermen exclusively, subject to the continuing rights of existing distributive agencies at present operating.
