Vol. 114 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Homes and Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of the low wages and poor conditions of employment obtaining in the county homes and county hospitals throughout the country; and, if so, whether he will recommend to the various local authorities concerned uniform scales of pay and conditions of employment which would be more attractive than the present ones and would be an encouragement to employees to remain at their posts instead of emigrating.

It is not clear to what class of local authority officer the Deputy refers.

Uniform scales of salaries for certain categories of local authority officers were recommended in August, 1947, and those recommendations have been accepted generally.

If the Deputy is aware of any particular instance which requires investigation I will have inquiries made upon receipt of particulars.
