Vol. 114 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Leitrim Post.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why Mr. James McCaffrey, Dromond Post Office, who has been doing temporary relief work in the local post office for the past ten years and who is a married man with two children and no means, has not been employed this year and why the vacancy has been filled by a single man who is reputed to be in comfortable circumstances; and, further, whether he intends to take action to restore this man to employment.

Mr. McCaffrey was employed as substitute postman as required at Bornacoola Post Office, Dromond, from 1937 to 1947, but when application was made to the local employment exchange in May last, he was not nominated and, consequently, he could not be engaged. The candidate put forward by the exchange was again employed early this year in an emergency vice sick absence. Mr. McCaffrey will be considered for any further employment arising at the office, provided he is nominated by the local labour exchange.
