Vol. 114 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disemployment by Fuel Importers, Limited.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that 100 employees of Fuel Importers, Limited, have this week been disemployed; and, if so, whether he proposes to request the Government to provide alternative employment for these men within the County Borough of Dublin.

I have been advised that a number of temporary employees of Fuel Importers, Limited, were paid off recently, the reason being that the temporary work for which they were engaged was finished.

I do not propose to recommend that the Government should set up a special employment scheme for the benefit of those disemployed.

No consideration whatever.

Will the Minister ensure that preference will be given to those men in any corporation scheme?

Are the Clann na Poblachta branches speaking out now?

The liquidation of the dumps would pay their wages for a long time.

They would liquidate a lot of workers.

Mr. Boland

Some of your own people could tell you a lot about these dumps.

Mr. Boland

I do not know what the Minister is talking about.
