Vol. 114 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Longford Turf Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the total expenditure and the total receipts by the Longford County Council on the turf scheme from its commencement to its close.

The total expenditure incurred and the total moneys received by the Longford County Council up to the 28th February, 1949, in respect of the Emergency Turf Production Scheme operated by the council are as follows: Total expenditure up to 28th February, 1949—£293,828 8s. 0d. Total Receipts up to 28th February, 1949— £282,831 2s. 10d.

The accounts for the schemes have not yet been closed pending settlement of certain outstanding claims against the council and the collection of miscellaneous small sums. The determination of the final price for the 1947 turf crop and the payment of amounts due by Messrs. Fuel Importers (Éire) Limited and the local authority have accordingly not been settled but it is hoped to have these matters cleared and the accounts closed at an early date.
