Vol. 115 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Iron Ore.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will have a survey made in Araglen, Kilworth, County Cork, to ascertain whether the iron ore there is rich enough to justify development.

The deposit of iron ore at Araglen, Kilworth, County Cork, was examined by officers of the Geological Survey in 1943. They reported that the ore appeared to have been dumped during the smelting of imported haematite in the area many years ago and that it was very unlikely that there was a natural deposit of ore in the district.

I do not consider that a further survey would be justified.
