Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dundalk Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (i) the date on which the urban district council's housing scheme for 96 houses at the Demesne, Dundalk, commenced; (ii) the dates on which the position of clerk of works was advertised and the date when this official took up duty; (iii) what preparatory and other work was undertaken and completed between the time of the commencement of the scheme and the time of the arrival of the clerk of works; (iv) what official was responsible before the arrival of the clerk of works for the supervision of the work and its certification as being in accordance with national and local building regulations; and (v) what are the qualifications and experience of the clerk of works appointed.

(i) The current scheme at the Demesne, Dundalk, comprises 112 houses. It is being carried out by two contractors one of whom commenced work on the 21st March, 1949, and the other on 28th March, 1949.

(ii) Advertisements were issued on 8th March, 1949, and the clerk of works took up duty on 20th April, 1949.

(iii) The preparatory work consisted of excavation of foundations, erection of huts and making of concrete blocks.

(iv) The consultant architect, together with the town surveyor and assistant town surveyor exercised direct supervision over the scheme prior to the clerk of works taking up duty.

(v) The clerk of works is a qualified engineer. He has previously acted as clerk of works on housing and water supply schemes, and has taken part in a roads survey.
