Vol. 115 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inducement for Return of Emigrants.

asked the Minister for Local Government what special inducement he intends offering to Irish tradesmen, at present working in England, to return and work on local authority housing contracts.

In public statements and in discussion with trade union representatives, it has already been clearly indicated that the planned housing programme, coupled with the programme of hospital construction and other large building projects, provide certainty of continuous employment for many years to come. This certainty of continuous employment at wage rates and with amenities of life which are attractive in comparison with conditions abroad should be a strong inducement to Irishmen to return home. It is intended to give further publicity to these prospects of continuous employment with good wages and favourable conditions.
