Vol. 115 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Resigned Civil Servants' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the fact that the increased salaries based on the 290 cost-of-living figure were paid from May, 1948, to serving civil servants, he will see that the increased pensions proposed to be paid to those who, through age or illness, were compelled to resign in or before May, 1948, will be effective as from May, 1948.

As I intimated to the Deputy in reply to his parliamentary question of the 17th May on this subject, the proposed pension increases will be payable as from the 1st April, 1949. I am not prepared to make the increases effective from any earlier date.
