Vol. 116 No. 1

Supplementary Estimates, 1949-50. - Business of Dáil.

Before the House adjourns, I wonder if, in view of the fact that the Government is not in a position to proceed with business, it is necessary to meet at 2 p.m. to-morrow, as to-day. It seems foolish to have met at 2 p.m. to-day when we are adjourning earlier than usual. It is an inconvenient hour for Deputies but we assented only in the anticipation of a full programme of business. Perhaps we can discharge that order from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. by agreement? I wonder if, at the same time, the Parliamentary Secretary would give some indication of the business for to-morrow?

As Deputies are probably aware, the suggestion to meet at 2 p.m. was made by a Deputy from the Opposition Party. I think it is an inconvenient time—it is during the luncheon interval. It was not anticipated that the business to-day would have finished so rapidly. In view of the changed circumstances I think there is no disagreement on this side of the House. We could meet at 3 o'clock to-morrow. The business would be the Land Reclamation Bill, the Electricity Supply Bill (Committee Stage) and the Department of Justice Estimate.

In that order?

In that order. Something else may be ordered in view of the rapidity with which business is going through, but I imagine those three items will take up to-morrow.

Agreed to sit at 3 p.m. to-morrow.

The Dáil adjourned at 9.30 p.m., until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 8th June, 1949.
