Vol. 116 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cleaning of County Galway Drains.

asked the Minister for Finance (a) whether application has been made for the cleaning of drains in the townlands of St. Brendan's, Cloonlyon, Doranstown and Lis-saveruggy in the electoral divisions of Ballygar and Cloonkeen, Mountbellew rural district; (b) whether any inspection has been carried out, and (c) why work has not yet been commenced.

Applications for full-cost grants for the carrying out of drainage works in the townlands referred to have been received on various occasions for several years past, and inspections duly made; but, as there have not been for many years a sufficient number of men in receipt of unemployment assistance to form an economic gang in the areas in question, it has not been possible to carry out the works as employment schemes.
