Vol. 117 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Roads.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate the amount of money to be spent on roads in the Beara Peninsula this year.

I understand from the county council that the figure is £19,344.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be in a position to indicate whether the proposed expenditure which he referred to in answer to Question No. 39, plus the £19,000 grant for roads, is in excess of the amount expended in this peninsula under the road grant last year?

I could not say now, as I have not the particulars here of the road grants for each area last year.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will (i) indicate when the repairs on and straightening of the road from Schull to Goleen will be completed, and (ii) state what is the road programme in this area for this year.

The matter is one for the Cork County Council. I will communicate with the Deputy after I have made inquiries.

In view of the fact that it is impossible to supply a bus service in this area until the repairs are completed, would the Parliamentary Secretary urge upon the county council the completion of the road as quickly as possible?

If there is provision made by the Cork County Council for it this year.

£84,000 short.
