Vol. 117 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that there is a grave shortage of water on a large number of farms in County Dublin; and, if so, whether the Land Commission will consider sinking pumps on these farms.

The Land Commission make reasonable provision for water facilities in connection with the division of untenanted land, but what the Deputy apparently has in mind is a scheme to benefit landholders generally. Such a scheme would be outside the normal ambit of the Land Commission's functions.

Would the Minister consider making a recommendation in regard to the scheme I have pointed out because there is urgent necessity for it, especially in County Dublin?

I am quite aware that there is a shortage of water on many farms but it would not be the function of the Land Commission in any case. I suggest the Deputy should contact some other Department or a local authority towards that end.
