Vol. 117 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minor Relief Schemes—Wages.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the wages paid on minor relief schemes in South Tipperary are 70/4 per week to gangers and 58/4 to labourers, and if it is intended to grant increases on these figures.

The rate of 58/4 paid to labourers on minor employment schemes is the minimum rate paid to adult agricultural labourers in South Tipperary. The minimum rate payable to gangers is 70/4 per week, representing an addition of 2/- per day on the rate applicable to labourers.

No change in these rates is at present contemplated.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that many of the men in question have to travel long distances, and, in view of that, will he consider the question of granting an increase?

Am I to take it that they have to travel long distances to work on minor relief schemes?

Gangers especially.

Get local gangers for the future.
