I understand that while the work of improving the road referred to in the manner suggested by the Deputy could be regarded as desirable work, it is not regarded by the Kerry County Council as comparable in urgency with other road works in the county. No special grant was allocated this year by the county council for the carrying out of the works referred to. A sum of £706 was allocated for the maintenance of a road group during the current financial year which includes the road referred to in the question. Up to the present a sum of £268 was expended on the maintenance of this group.
asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the Baureragh county road, Bonane, Kenmare, is in a very bad state of repair; if he will state (i) the amount of grant which was made available by the Kerry County Council for the upkeep of this road during the present financial year; (ii) what portion of the grant has been expended up to the present; and (iii) whether it is now possible to allocate a special grant for the proper repair of this much-used thoroughfare.
I understand that the road referred to is at present under repair; that it is part of a group for the upkeep of which £706 has been made available by the Kerry County Council in the present financial year and that £156 of this sum has so far been expended. No further moneys can be made available in the present financial year towards the execution of works on this road.
