Vol. 118 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan Postal Deliveries.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware of the widespread inconvenience caused to the people of the Newbliss and Scotshouse districts by the recent unreasonably late postal delivery; and, if so, whether he will ensure the resumption of the customary time of delivery.

I am aware that delivery in these places is at a late hour, but I find that it would not be possible to afford an earlier delivery without omitting about 40 per cent. of the correspondence which is included in the present delivery. As this would constitute a serious worsening of the existing facilities, I do not propose to disturb the present arrangements.

The postal services throughout the country are, however, being reorganised at present with the object of improving the services generally, and the question of providing an earlier delivery in the Newbliss and Scotshouse districts will be further examined when the necessary survey of the Monaghan postal district is undertaken.
