Vol. 118 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Vocational Schools.

asked the Minister for Education what is the present position regarding the proposals for the erection of vocational schools at Midleton and Mitchelstown, County Cork, and whether he can state when building will commence.

Owing to the limited amount of capital expenditure which can be sanctioned for vocational schools at present it was possible to authorise only one of these schools, Mitchelstown, in the current financial year, and approval accordingly was given in April last to the County Cork Vocational Education Committee. The committee has since submitted sketch plans, and these plans are at present under consideration. The question of Midleton School is being considered in connection with the capital sum to be allocated for vocational schools in the financial year 1950-51.

I should like to point out that the erection of these schools is in abeyance for the past 12 years. There are two very important industries functioning in these towns and it is an absolute necessity to have the schools built within the shortest period possible and that the Minister should avail immediately of both the material and the skilled labour which are at present in the country.

There is not a note of interrogation in that alleged supplementary question.
