Vol. 118 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New County Cork Sanatorium.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has received tenders for the development of the site of the new regional sanatorium at Sarsfield Court, County Cork; and, if so, when he expects (a) work to commence on the site; (b) the actual building work to commence; and (c) the building to be completed and ready for the reception of patients; and, further, what the accommodation of the sanatorium will be and what is the amount of the grant allowed for its erection.

Tenders for development works on the site of the projected regional sanatorium at Sarsfield Court, Glanmire, County Cork, were invited by advertisement in the public Press on the 25th and the 26th October, 1949. The time within which tenders for these works will be accepted expires at 12 noon on the 26th November, 1949. No tenders have so far been received.

It is expected that site development work will commence not later than January, 1950, and that the building work will begin towards the end of that year. It is estimated that building operations will be completed in approximately four years from the date of their commencement.

The building is being planned to accommodate 488 patients and the necessary staff. A grant equivalent to 100 per cent. of the total cost of the work, which it is estimated will be upwards of £1,000,000, will be made from the Hospitals Trust Fund.
