Vol. 118 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Health whether he will state (a) the number of schemes sanctioned by him for the erection of hospitals, sanatoria or other buildings; (b) the cost of each scheme, and (c) the amount of fees payable in each scheme to (i) architects; (ii) quantity surveyors, and (iii) others.

The number of hospital buildings and allied works which I have sanctioned for execution in the period of seven years ending in 1955 is 168. Except in the case of projects which are at an advanced stage of planning, it is not possible to give a close estimate of the cost of each scheme, but the aggregate cost of the programme, originally estimated at £17,500,000, will probably be much higher. The amount of fees payable to architects, quantity surveyors and others will depend on the final cost of the works and will be calculated at the customary percentage rates.

Am I to take it that the fees to which I refer in my question will be calculated on the basis of recognised scale rates?

The scales agreed upon between the Department and the representative bodies for the various professional groups, that is, architects, quantity surveyors and mechanical and electrical engineers, will be paid.
