Vol. 118 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding at Douglas (County Cork).

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that heavy flooding occurs at frequent intervals at Douglas, County Cork, causing serious hardship and loss to the residents; and, if so, whether he will state if his Department or the local authority propose to take immediate steps to prevent this flooding.

It is a matter for the local authority to select suitable works for execution under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949.

In regard to the flooding at Douglas a small scheme was submitted by Cork County Council and is at present under examination in the Department. A decision thereon will be issued in the near future.

It is understood that the submission of a further scheme is under consideration locally. The proposal will be duly considered on its merits, if and when submitted.
