asked the Minister for Agriculture what progress has been made by his Department in establishing a costings section for agricultural production.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Costings of Agricultural Production.
We have assembled in the Department of Agriculture a good deal of costings relating to various branches of the agricultural industry and these are are at present being carefully studied. I find it difficult finally to decide between the merits of getting costings surveys done by highly qualified authorities who are quite independent of the Department of Agriculture on a fee basis, or of getting them done by the economics division of the Department itself.
For the present I have decided to rely on the former method, but I propose to review the whole question from time to time in case altered circumstances should suggest the desirability of any change.
