Vol. 118 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protection of School Children from Traffic.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will arrange to have members of the Gardaí posted for duty, at the appropriate times, at Marino schools and at the junction of Griffith Avenue and Malahide Road to protect infants crossing the roads while going to and coming from school.

I have brought this matter to the notice of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána. The police make arrangements, so far as their other duties permit, for the supervision of traffic near schools, when children are arriving and departing, but I fear that it will not be possible to guarantee regular supervision at all schools.

Does the Minister realise that the particular place mentioned is exceptionally dangerous? Will he ask the Garda authorities to give special consideration to the request made?

That has been done.
