Vol. 118 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Whiskey and Spirits Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the nature of the representations made to him for the removal of price control on whiskey and spirits, and if he will state the grounds on which he decided to remove these controls.

Representations were made to me by the wholesale and retail trade associations that the price control on intoxicating liquors should be removed or that increased prices should be permitted because of increased costs. In view of the increased supplies of whiskey and other spirits which have become available in the past year and as these are not in the category of essential goods, I decided to remove the official control on prices.

Is the Minister aware that in Bray the price of whiskey has gone up 6d. a glass since he removed the control?

There is a very easy way of dealing with that.
