Vol. 118 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New National Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether it is proposed to erect a new school at Kiltale, in the parish of Moynaloy, County Meath; and, if so, what is the present position.

A grant has been sanctioned by the Department towards the cost of the erection of a new school to replace the present Kiltale National School, Moynaloy, County Meath, and the arrangements for the erection of the new building are in the hands of the Commissioners of Public Works. I understand from the commissioners that the preparation of the working drawings and specification is nearing completion and that they expect to be in a position to invite tenders in the near future.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the cause of the delay in providing a new national school at Crossbridge, Tinahely, County Wicklow.

A suitable site for a new school has been offered by the manager. Before a grant can be sanctioned by the Department towards the cost of erecting a new school, it is necessary that satisfactory evidence of title to the site be furnished by the manager in order to enable an official lease of the site to trustees to be prepared.

The manager of Crossbridge National School has furnished evidence of title in respect of one portion of the proposed site, but difficulties have arisen in regard to title to the remaining portion. I am having investigations made as a matter of urgency, as to whether it might not be feasible to erect the new school on that portion of the site for which title is available; but I am unable to say at this stage whether such an arrangement would be possible.

Failing a solution on these lines, I fear that further progress could not be made towards the erection of a school on the site offered, until satisfactory evidence of title to the whole plot is available. The alternative would be for the manager to endeavour to procure another site to which satisfactory evidence of title could be obtained.
