Vol. 118 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants for City Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state in respect of Dublin hospitals the number of applications for grants he has received since February, 1948, under the heads of (a) reconstruction, (b) extension, and (c) provision of additional and major facilities for special treatment, surgery, etc.; and the number of such applications (a) granted, (b) under consideration, and (c) deferred or refused.

I have received the following numbers of applications from Dublin hospitals since February, 1948, under the heads quoted: (a) three; (b) nine; (c) two.

The number of such applications granted in each category was: (a) nil; (b) seven; (c) two.

The number under consideration is:

(a)three; (b) one; (c) nil.

The number deferred or refused is:

(a) nil; (b) one; (c) nil.

On Wednesday, 23rd November, this day week, I gave notice that, in view of the refusal of the Minister for Health to give vital information to this House in relation to the placing of an important public contract, I intended to raise the matter on the Adjournment that evening. I was stopped from doing so by reason of the fact that Deputy Hickey had given notice to raise Question No. 24 and Deputy Con Lehane had given notice to raise Question No. 25. I now desire to know whether, with your permission, Sir, I may raise the question to-night?

The Deputy may. Will the Deputy state the number of the question?

Question No. 48 on Wednesday, 23rd November.
