Vol. 118 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old I.R.A. Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Old I.R.A. men in County Dublin are very disappointed that service pensions are not being increased; and, if so, whether he will introduce proposals for legislation to increase these pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence whether, in view of the discontent among members of the Old I.R.A. because of the fact that their service pensions are inadequate in present circumstances, he will introduce proposals for legislation providing for such increase.

With your permission I propose to take Questions Nos. 32 and 33 together.

I am not aware of discontent among persons in receipt of pensions under the Military Service Pensions Acts because of the fact that their pensions are inadequate in present circumstances, and I do not intend to introduce legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputies.

I am aware that such is the case and representations have been made to me by members of the Old I.R.A. Welfare Society in County Dublin complaining about this matter.

Has the Deputy a supplementary question?
